Bishop Freddie Harrington Obituary

Bishop Freddie L. Harrington was known to some as, Elder, Doctor, Reverend and Minister in the Christian Community.  Lee as he was affectionately called by family and close friends was born September 7, 1941 to the late Mr. Sirius Mack and the late Ms. Amanda Harrington in the Wallace Community of Marlboro County, South Carolina. During his early childhood and teen year's he was reared in the Wallace Community along with five siblings.  Four of his siblings preceded him in death; (Bertha Harrington, Thelma Hart, Helen Harrington, and Clinton Harrington.  Preceding him in death also is his wife, Mrs. Rosa Mell Harrington.  

On September 15, 1962 he was united in Holy Matrimony to the former Rosa Mell Hasty of Sumter, South Carolina.  They remained married for 42 years. 

They enjoyed the blessings of one son, Kenneth (Delia) Hasty of St. Matthews, South Carolina; and three daughters; Barbara Little of Wallace South Carolina; Gwenvieve Bryant-Hill of Maryland and Rasheiska Harrington of Jamaica.  Six grandchildren: Jerveris and Jeremy Little, Chris, Bryant and Robert Hill, Ariel (Bernardo) Chavez; Nine Great-grandchildren: Keiana, Maverick, King-Julian and Cyncere Little, Dontavious Blanton, Viviana Chavez, Anayah, Adrian and Brycen Hill.  He leaves one sister: Mrs. Ollie (Fletcher) McQueen of Cheraw, South Carolina.  Brothers-in-law: Joshua Hasty of Florence, South Carolina, Preston Hasty of Sumter, South Carolina; sisters -in-law Barbara Geddis of Sumter, South Carolina, Dr. Danielle (Robert) Wilson of Sumter, South Carolina, Special friends from Sumter,  Thelma Isaac and Linda Hasty, goddaughter; Minister Christine Pearson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.


Employment History:

1961 - 1971 New York City General Post Office Supervisor. task consisted of supervising and training new staff Facilitating employment workshops ensuring that the department is operating within the federal, state and city regulations. Performed clerical and mail carried duties as needed.

1971 - 1991  New York City Transit Authority, Public Relations.

Performed daily bus operations, clerical duties, scheduling, incident/accident reports. Assisted with investigation for quality performance in the agency.

1994 - 2020  Sumter South Carolina School District  Bus Driver
