Carolyn Baker Obituary

Ms. Carolyn Margie Baker, 82 of New York, New York formerly of Rowland, North Carolina was promoted to her heavenly home on December 27, 2023.

Carolyn was the daughter of both the late Mr. Sidney Baker and Mrs. Martha Townsend Baker.  She was born in Robeson County and spent her early years in Rowland, NC.  She graduated from South Side High School in 1959.  She was always cheerful and never met a stranger and she loved helping people.  She was fun to be around and happiest when she was helping people of all backgrounds who found themselves in a difficult situation.  She also loved animals mostly dogs but she had cats too. She loved her family and loved fun and laughter when around them and anyone she ever met.  She loved beautifying her yard.  Carolyn could get very serious when playing the card game ”Spades”.  Carolyn had a very warm heart and a great sense of humor, and touched so many lives.

Carolyn accepted Christ at an early age and worshiped with her family at the Cedar Grove United Methodist Church in Rowland.

After graduating high school Carolyn moved to New York with family and worked there until she retired.  While there she worked several jobs and at one time operated her own variety shop.

Upon retirement she came back home and again was active at (Cedar Grove) now New Hope United Methodist Church and also was active in the community. She was best known for selling the New York Icees to the children in Rowland which brought her joy. She was a member of the Chamber of Commerce in Rowland for a period of time.

Carolyn was united in holy matrimony with Charles Kendrix.  They made their home in New York and raised a blended family. When her health failed, Ricky moved her to New York with him so he could provide excellent care for her.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, and a sister Lou Ester Lackey.

Carolyn leaves to cherish her precious memories one son, Ricky Lamont Baker of New York, and a blended son and daughter, Charles McDonald of Raleigh North Carolina and Cheryl Kendrix of Chicago, IL.  She is also survived by one sister, Helen McEnnis (Richard McEnnis) of Philadelphia, PA.  Her endearing Brother/Cousin Sam (Bus) Campbell;  Niece’s and nephews Esther Lackey, Eric McEnnis, Shonda Lackey, Harvey Jr. Lackey, Sidra Lackey.
