Mr. James Andrew Hampton, Sr., was born in Kings County in Brooklyn, NY on November 2, 1963. He departed this life on May 10, 2021 in New Hanover Medical Center in Wilmington, North Carolina. “Wakim” as James was lovingly called was the son of the late James Hampton and Mrs. Barney Washington Hampton of Rowland. “Wakim” grew up and attended elementary and high school in Brooklyn, NY. When the family moved down south he enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke studying business administration. James (Wakim) was a truck driver by trade but also became involved in civic functions. He supported the community activities around Rowland especially those that effected young kids. While getting acquainted with the town of Rowland and the rules and regulations that governed it he decided to get involved. He ran for the office of Mayor of Rowland and was elected by the people. He served to the best of his ability. He was a loving person with a beautiful smile. He was raised in a loving Christian home and confessed Christ as his personal Savior at an early age. He was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Rowland and served on the Usher board, Methodist Men group, and anywhere else he was needed to serve. He was preceded in death by his father , James, his brother , Darrell and sister , Tameka. He leaves with precious memories : his mother , Mrs. Barney Hampton of the home, his children , James Andrew Hampton , Jr. , and Sir Christian Hampton both of Daytona, Florida; and Anaiah Song Eubanks of Lawrenceville , GA Brother Sean Hampton of Wilmington NC; Sisters Mary McLean and Valarie Washington both of Rowland, NC. One brother -in -law , Michael McLean of Rowland, NC and one sister -in -law , Ellisa Hampton of New York; aunts, uncles, nephews , nieces and a host of other relatives and friends.
