At an early age, he like other youngsters of his day accepted Christ as his personal Savior and followed the teachings and precepts of Jesus Christ.  He attended school in Robeson County and soon set out on his own to find employment.  He performed many odd jobs until he was introduced to brick masonry.  He loved building things and working with his hands.   After years of masonry he sought a different type of employment which was a position in textile.  He was employed as a material handler at Contempora Fabrics of Lumberton, North Carolina. He was a valued employee and retired from there after 30 years of service.

Mr. James favorite sport was football and he was a die-hard fan of the Philadelphia Eagles.  He also like spending time with the fellows at the barbershop where his friend for life Mr. Russell and he spent many hours discussing current events and other things from the barber’s chair.  He also loved to spend quiet time at his favorite fishing spot, enjoying nature which included the clashing of the calming river water to the chirping of the birds scattered about in the trees.

Mr. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was an humble man with a quiet spirit and was well liked and respected in the community.
