“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:. Ecclesiastes 3:1
Mrs. Janie Pearl McRae “Peaches” was born on October 5, 1931 in Granville County, North Carolina. Her parents were Mr. Garland Wortham and Mrs. Betty Thorpe Wortham. She was a loving daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother. She was raised in a Christian home and introduced to Jesus Christ at an early age. She passed away on January 7, 2021 at the golden age of eighty nine years.
She graduated from Southside High School and attended Pembroke State University. She was employed in the school system for years working as a Teacher Assistant at Purvis School and then at Green Grove Elementary. She retired from the Robeson County School System in 1994. Mrs. McRae was a believer in education and was very proud of her sons who were both afforded the opportunity to attend college.
She was united in holy matrimony with Mr. Willie McRae and they were the proud parents of two sons, Larry and Willie. Her husband preceded her in death. She was a member of the St. Luke UMC Church in Hamer, SC."Ms. Peaches" was a long time well respected citizen in her community, Elrod in southern Robeson County.. Some of her hobbies were pier fishing for “Spots”, cooking and planting flowers. Upon a visit to the home one of the first thing one would notice would be several "fishing poles" clasped together on the porch,. One might think she didn't want to waste any time retrieving them when a trip to the beach was planned. Another thing one would notice when entering the yard would be the many different plants and flowers all around. I'm sure the kitchen supported her love for cooking.
Left with precious memories are her sons: (WC) Willie (Ruth) McRae of Charlotte, NC, and Larry McRae of Rowland. Eight Grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She also leaves 2 nieces and 1 nephew, and a host of other relatives and friends.
