Mrs. Landa Baker Gaddy (Landa / Mrs.Gaddy) 86 of Fairmont, NC succumbed to death on January 6, 2021.She was born June 26th, 1934 in Robeson County. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Thurston Baker Sr. and the late Mrs. Anna Mae Love Baker. She was educated in Robeson County schools (mostly Rosenwald schools) She was united in holy wedlock with Mr. David Henry Gaddy Jr..on August 15, 1954 (they met when he was driving her school bus)and they are the proud parents of three beautiful children, one of which (Carolyn), preceded her in death.
Landa had a passion for good Gospel singing. She was a member of the "Baker" family singers who were great singers, and so was Landa known and loved for her beautiful voice. Landa sang with all her heart to the glory of the Lord. One of her favorite songs to sing was "When I See Jesus, Amen" and by now, she has done that. She was also a member of the famed Community Chorus from Robeson County and they were a hit wherever they performed. Mrs. Gaddy was known for her love and concern for all the youth and had a strong belief in education. She had several nutrition programs that were practiced in some of the public schools of Robeson County which benefited the children and their ability to learn. She was very popular with the youth through the establishment of the Youth Self Improvement Choir which had members from all over the county. Mrs. Gaddy also had a strong interest in getting people registered to vote and help several political campaigns succeed in political office.
Mrs. Gaddy leaves to cherish her memory: Her loving and devoted husband of the home Henry David Gaddy Jr.
Two children- a son Dennis (Jackie) of Raleigh, NC and Linda Chatmon of Atlanta-Metro, Georgia. She leaves six grandchildren, Bryon Gaddy (Terry), Justin Gaddy, Michael Chatmon Jr., Jocelyn Chatmon, Ashley Gaddy, and April Lee and several great grandchildren.
Landa came from a family of 10 brothers and sisters-she was preceded in death by brothers Rufus (Fennel) Baker, and William Hal Baker, and sister Marjorie Pollard. She is survived by four sisters Lucy Evans, Doris Caroline Baker, Judy (Marvin Pete) Chandler and Patricia Baker, and brothers Thurston (Annie Ruth) Baker Jr., Ricky (Lois) Baker and Lewis (Evon) Baker, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The family would like to also pay special appreciation to Mrs. Erin McGill, Mr. James Campbell, Ms. Anita Pittman, and Mom’s sister Judy Chandler (and her daughter Melissa) for special care-taking duties given to Mom over the years of her declining health.
