Sarah Lee Jones

Obituary

Mrs. Sarah Lee McQueen Jones 91 of Fayetteville, North Carolina was born to the late Luther and Flora McQueen on April 2, 1930.  She attended the Southside Elementary School and Southside High School in Rowland, North Carolina.  After high school she met, fell in love and married the love of her life, Henry Brooks Jones.  No children were born to this union.

She joined the St. James Missionary Baptist Church in Rowland, NC at an early age and served many years before moving to Brooklyn, New York. Very soon after arriving in the Big Apple, she found another house of God to worship in, the Washington's Temple Church of God and Christ. She worked diligently on the Usher Board, Floral and Missionary Boards for eighteen years.

In 1965, Sarah visited her first cousin Letha Mae who lived in Detroit, Michigan and fell in love with the city.  She moved there the same year.  Again, she wasted no time finding a place of worship, and joined her cousins church, The Christian Memorial Church of God.  And in view of her church experiences, she was made Baptismal Chairperson and worked untiringly as a nurse, served on the Prayer Band, Pastor's Aid Club and served on the Culinary Arts Committee.

Sarah's hobbies and expertise were bowling, sewing, and most importantly, she was an extraordinary cook. Her specialties were dinner rolls, loafed breads, donuts, assorted exotic cookies, corn beef and cabbage, and chicken and pastry.

In 2014, her health began to decline extremely.  Her doctor suggested very strongly that she be placed in a nursing home or go and live with a relative.  She could not live by herself any longer.  Her nephew, Deacon Glenn McQueen had been trying to get her to move back to Rowland where she had kinfolk, to no avail.  He interceded on her behalf and concluded that she would be better off living with his family. He and his lovely wife, Gloria became her legal guardian's.  He and his son, Glenn Jr., drove to Detroit and brought her and her belongings back to Fayetteville.

After Sarah lived in the sunny state of North Carolina, got plenty of sunshine, fresh air and well-rounded meals, she became a new person, and her health took a 360 degree turn. Diabetes disappeared, no more Congestive Heart failure, no more COPD and other contributing negative health factors.  She began going shopping for food, clothes, shoes and other amenities that were desired. She also started attending her original and childhood church, the St. James Missionary Baptist Church.  Look at GOD!   Won't He Do IT????  However, on March 8, 2022, God called His earthly angel home to receive her crown of eternal life.

Sarah was preceded in death by her husband: Henry Jones; her parents Luther and Floral McQueen; sisters: Luella Isreal (Lonnie); Rosa Lee Green (Bernie).

She leaves to cherish her memories one sister ; Ruthania Jebucitwa, AKA  Betrice McQueen Robinson; Legal Gardian's  Glenn and Gloria McQueen, and a host of loving nephews, nieces, cousins, great caring friends and God children.
