Thyra Jolene Currie was born June 28, 1964 in Robeson County to the late Mr. Rudolph Currie, Sr., and Mrs. Earlene Hill Currie. She was a graduate of Fairmont High School, Fayetteville State University, Capella University, Webster College and attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After college Thyra began a career in social work at the Robeson County Department of Social Services where she worked for over 20 years. Her public service continued at the Cumberland County Health Department where she worked for 14 years. Thyra was a member of Antioch Baptist Church where she found and loved the Lord until the end of her journey. Thyra loved her family and would ride to the ends of the earth for them.
Education was always important to Thyra and this was evident as she gained a bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Fayetteville State University, a master’s degree in Counseling from Webster College and later obtained a PHD in Counseling from Capella University.
Thyra was proceeded in death by her father Rudolph and her brother, Cornell Currie.
She leaves to cherish her memories, husband Larone Pugh, two children, Creston Foster and Alexiss Pugh and Mother Earlene Currie. Her brothers, Rudolph (Coot) Currie, Jr. (Chandra), Antonio Caprice Currie, Sr. (Barbara), Dexter Currie and adopted sister Felecia Hill. Nieces and Nephews, Donald, Rani, Carole, Camille, Tracey, Antonio (Big Tony), Jarius, Jariah Nicholas and Karmen. Uncles Willie Earl Currie, Sr. (Rebecca), Robert Lee Currie (Ann) and one aunt Hazel Currie; and a host or relative and friends.
