Mr. William Norris Floyd Sr. of Fairmont, North Carolina passed away peacefully while a patient in UNC Health Southeastern in Lumberton, North Carolina on Friday January 15, 2021. Bill as he was affectionally called was the last of the 13 siblings of Mr. John H. Floyd and Mrs. Hester Foxworth Floyd. He was born on December 13, 1935 and raised in Robeson County. After graduating from Rosenwald High School and looking to a better future other than rural, he chose to journey north and became employed in the Transit Department as a bus driver in New York. He also joined the Army National Guard in New York and retired with an honorable discharge from that post in December 1994.
"Bill" united in holy matrimony with Mae Ruth McDowell in December of 1958 and they shared 60 wonderful years of marriage until her death in 2019. Bill had a beautiful voice as his father did and he will be missed on the Men's Choir of the First Baptist Church on North Main Street in Fairmont. Bill was a gentle soul with a million dollar shy smile and was young at heart. To know him was to love him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings and his wife, Mae Ruth Floyd. Although he is physically out of our sight he will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him most; his two sons William Norris Floyd Jr (Ella) of the home and Warren Ross Floyd of Atlanta, GA. Two daughters Tammy Burden (Leon) of Hope Mills, NC and Kim Scott of Bronx, NY and one daughter-in-law Rechaunda Tolbert of Fayetteville, NC; grandchildren: Kwane Floyd, Shaquita Floyd, Theresa Thompson and Ieshia Harris, Xavier Floyd, Quentin Floyd, Chais Floyd. Great-Grandchildren: Ava Floyd, Isiah Floyd, Sanora Walker, Sintrell Walker, David Wright and Sage Walker One sister-in-law Rosa Mae Nelson of Hope Mills, NC and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
