William Tegusta Richardson

March 3, 2021

Mr. William Tegusta Richardson was born September 11, 1932 in Fairmont, North Carolina to the late Mr. Paul Richardson and the late Mrs. Leona Thompson Richardson.  He departed this life on Wednesday March 3, 2021 in the comfort of his home in Ash, North Carolina with family surrounding his bedside.

He was educated in Robeson County where he grew up participating in the good ole life of farming and growing things. This is were his desire to grow and plant and harvest was first kindled. Shortly after completing high school he entered the United States Army on March 24, 1953 and served in the Korean War.

After years of employment in various jobs, he decided he would use his entrepreneur skills and start his own business "His Way".  Construction was something he knew a lot about and was comfortable with the knowledge he had,  so he started his own construction business.  That business flourished until his health began to fail.  Once again relying on his desire to grow things and partnering with his wife, Lila he began growing produce.  He enjoyed watching the vegetables and flowers grow.  In addition to gardening, he enjoyed teaching his children  how to play baseball and how to catch a fish.  He was also fascinated with the world of politics and participated in that civic process in his community.

William loved his family and community.  He thought someone should be aware of what was going on in the county. He became a member of several Brunswick County committees and boards.  He worked with the Democratic Party and Voter Registration, the Nursing Home Advisory board, the Advisory Committee of Waccamaw Elementary School and the Waccamaw Athletic Association.  His team won the Dixie Youth Baseball Tournament Championship in 1994.  He said that all children should have the opportunity to play, so he coached the team. He became a member of the VFW Post 7288 of Calabash, NC.  As a Post Surgeon, he would set up days for his post to go into the middle schools and teach the students about the United States Flag.

William was preceded in death by his siblings; brothers Thomas and Roosevelt, and sister Evelyn Gerald.

William leaves his memories to be cherished by: his loving wife, Lila Bowen Richardson; his son, Jason L. Richardson, Greensboro, NC; his daughter, Lakecia M.
