Willie A Thompson 82, of Hempstead, New York and formerly of Fairmont, North Carolina was born on August 5th, 1938. He was the son of the late Mrs. Telitha Powell Thompson and Mr. Archie Thompson of Fairmont, NC. Willie grew up in Robeson County and attended Rosenwald High School. After graduating he worked at Southeastern Regional Hospital in Lumberton NC as an attendant. He was responsible for the non- medical care of patients. Willie loved to dance. His favorite dance was doing what was called the “Boogaloo”. During the summer months Willie applied his entrepreneurship and had his own “ Car Detailing” business where he earned money detailing cars. He was a friend to everyone he met. And then one day Willie decided that it was time for a change, so he went to Florida where he became a tractor trailer driver, traveling the United States pursuing his dream to visit all the states in the US.
After a year or so of traveling the United States on the long hauls he decided to move to the State of New York. It was there that he found his dream come true. On a corner street, applying his entrepreneurship abilities again, shining shoes, when a Guy stopped to get a shoeshine. Willie did a fantastic job of popping that cloth and making those shoes shine. During one of their encounters this Guy saw something special in Willie, his work ethics and integrity along with the way he could make a person laugh, and invested in his dream by offing him a job, which Willie accepted. That person just happened to be an attorney. He invested in Willie, and they became friends for life. They were still friends, even at the end when Willie became ill.
Willie departed this life on April 21, 2021 at Hempstead Park Hospice Nursing Home, Hempstead NY.
He has now joined his heavenly family who preceded him in death: his parents Mr. Archie and Telitha Thompson, his siblings Dorothy, Leonard, Luther, Sarah, Annie Marie, and Shirley.
Willie is survived by 5 children: Willie Jr. , David, John and Tiesha. 4 Grandchildren : Tisia, Tekeya, Elasia and Makah and 2 great grands Jaclyn and Taylor. He also leaves three brothers, James, Emory and Thomas Thompson and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends..
